Every Legend has a beginning----- and this series is the beginning of Sherlock Holmes this series is about his life before he becomes a world-renowned detective in the city of London.
INTRODUCTION:
This book is from a series of books called The "Young Sherlock" and this book's name is "black ice". The author of the book is Andrew Lane. This book is published by the Macmillan Publishing Company. This is the 3rd book of the series.
SUMMARY:
The main plot of the story was that Sherlock was studying and learning different skills in his life when he gets a letter from Mycroft telling him to come to his country club and from there started the chase of proving Myocraft innocent of a supposed murder that he didn't do but was framed off and then an agent of Myocroft goes missing in another country so they travel to that country with a playgroup and in the middle of their journey they figure out that the playgroup were agents from that country and they were taking them captive because they knew that if they killed Myocroft then there will be an all-out war and they wanted that so begin the part of saving Myocroft from a possible murderous plot which involved a killer eagle which was excellently trained
GENRE:
The genre is usually Mystery of this book but it also touches the subject of human ethics and intellect at some points and it also discusses wars and the sacrifices of the people in the war. This book is among the best within its genre and somewhat okay in the other genres it touched. My expectations of this book were very high and let's just say that if given enough time I would have completed it within one sitting.
CHARACTERS:
My appreciation and care for the characters were at their peak points and I cared about every character from Sherlock to Mycroft everyone. I didn't hate any character necessarily because every character was formatted beautifully even the villains were beautifully described. The character arcs were believable for Sherlock but for Mycroft, it was kinda weird and missing in some places. Both the character arcs were really satisfying at the end.
PLOT AND THEME:
The story gripped me from the start till the ending like at the point, Spoiler Alert, Where Mycroft was found with a knife in his hand and a dead guy on the floor with a knife wound, and like the time when they find out that Mycroft's spy that got captured actually turned sides and was working for the enemy now to kill Mycroft and to make a war happen. The theme of the story was how a brother helped another brother get out of the way of trouble when the other brother was belittled and did not listen to his whole life. and this theme held true from the start of the story till the end of the story. The ending was very satisfying in which the enemy was caught and punished and Mycroft and Sherlock returned back home safe the ending solved all the questions that remained about the story. Plotholes and inconsistencies were not at all observed within the story.
PACE OF THE STORY:
The story was not feel dragged and did not feel like the story went on forever except in some places, Spoiler Alert, like the time when they wanted to leave for another country all the thoughts and expectations seemed excessive but somewhat felt necessary to improve the overall outlook of the story.
PROSE:
The author's writing style is detail oriented and analytical and he took up every single thing in the story and wrote it in detail and analyzed it in the best way. Every single detail was mapped out in the story in a special way. The author's voice was compelling and his writing and explanation of every scenario that Sherlock got himself into were beautiful. Just because the author's own voice was compelling it made the boring parts of the story into a magnificent turning point and a whole thought process.
IMPACT OF THE STORY ON YOU:
My final emotions on completing the story were that I was thrilled that the story was so great, and I looked forward to reading it all over again and reading the version of this series.
MY RECOMMENDATION:
My recommendation of this book is that it is a must-read book for everyone and it contains some of the very best plotlines and climaxes I have ever seen and this really explains the motives and purposes for which Sherlock got into detective. This story has some of the best characters with the best character elements and murder plans and murder methods were unique and explanation of how they were going to use the methods for killing people and engaging in war was beautiful and never ever in a mystery story have I seen such a unique weapon of murder and yet it made perfect sense.
